Abstract:Cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)is one of the best salinity tolerance crops.Light, temperature and salinity are environmental factors that have influence on the germination of G.hirsutum  L.seeds.The germination characteristics of Gossypium hirsutum L.were studied. Seeds were germinated at three lights, three temperatures and seven salinities to determine optimal conditions for germination. No difference was found between the germinability of its seeds in light and in darkness. The optimal temperature for germination was 30℃,yielded maximum germination.Rate of germination decreased with increase in salinity, and fell to nearly 0.Different temperatures and various concentrations of salinity individually, and their interaction significantly affected germination of G.hirsutum L.The critical value of salinity tolerance is 148.13mmol·L-1 and the limit value of salinity tolerance is 305.81mmol·L-1 at the optimal temperature.
