Abstract:Cotton seed quality be evaluated after the seeds were delinted with mahinery, especially for seed coat structure and embryo viability. The result showed that the mechanically-delinted seed (MDS)obviously affected the seed quality. According to our observations, there were no seed-pedicel and raphe of mechanically delinted seeds. The split rate of their micropyles was 2%, the split rate of the seed coat was 8%, the revealing rate of chalazae was 95%, the damage rate of seed coats around the chalazae was 95%. Test with the Red Ink Method and TTC Stain Method showed, both the cotyledon tissues and radices were damaged, especially, the cotyledon tissues near the chalazae were damaged the most severely, these were followed by other parts of cotyledon and the radices. TTCH content of different seeds was detected. The results showed TTCH content were the highest for fuzzy seeds (9.24 μg·mL-1), followed by those of seeds delinted with sulfuric acid (7.66 μg·mL-1), the lowest were those of MDS ( 6.94 μg·mL-1). The experiments for soaking seeds and seed cultures in sand were conducted, the results showed the water-absorption rate of MDS was obviously increased. The results of the cold test and the gravity resistance test revealed that no matter whether soaked seeds or non-soaked seeds were sowed, the germination index and vigor index of MDS were lower than those of seeds delinted with sulfuric acid and those of fuzzy seeds, therefore, the stress resistance of MDS was greatly affected.
