Abstract£ºWe evaluated 24 obsolete short season upland cotton varieties and 4 current commercial varieties for lint yield£¬other main agronomic characters£¬earliness£¬and fiber properties over 2-years period£¬2001 to 2002£¬at 5-points.we wanted to determine genetic improvements of the short season cotton in different decades. In comparison with the fiber length£¬strength and other characters of different decades varieties£¬the results showed that the fiber quality had been improved better from year to year. The enhancement speed of the length£¬strength and other characters is from quickly to slowly between 1950¡äs and 1970¡äs. After that the improved speed maintained to a certainty level. Its results and the progress were inferior than the improvements of the production did. Because it would be relative to the breeding goal and the cotton textile science and technology level and the cotton policy at that time.
At the same time£¬ the problem of resistance to Fususium wilt has been overcome£¬and the resistance to Verticillum wilt was improving.
