AbstractTwo varieties of upland cotton belonging to different chilling-resistant levels,i.e. early and late maturity were determined for the amount of soluble proteins in cotton seedlings which have been treated at different low temperature day and night, and the soluble proteins were separated by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(abbr.to SDS-PAGE).Results showed that a low-temperature-induced protein (namely antifreeze protein, about 123 kd )band appeared in the variety Xin S29 that has obviously chilling resistance, but the band wasn't seen in the variety Jinmian 6 that has less chilling resistance. The relations between the chilling resistance of cotton varieties and the amount of soluble proteins and kinds in cotton seedlings which have been treated at different low temperature day and night were analyzed in this paper. Moreover, the possible relevant mechanisms were discussed.
