AbstractThe growth and development and their metabolism of carbohydrate and nitrogen of 9 Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt) transgenic cotton cultivars in transplanting pattern, during the 2002 and 2003 growing seasons at the Yangzhou University Farm,Yangzhou of Jiangsu Province,China. The results showed that Bt transgenic hybrid cotton (CCRI 29,Lumian 15 and Kemian 1) had bigger growth rate of plant height,LAI,squares, boll and dry matter weight of the vegetative and reproductive organs, higher content of leaf total nitrogen, amino acid, soluble sugar and higher enzyme activity of NR,GPT,Rubisco and Sucroase in whole growth period. They had characteristics of both strong vegetative and reproductive growth in whole growth period; The cultivars of GK19 and Xin 33B had bigger growth rate of plant height,LAI,squares, higher content of leaf total nitrogen, amino acid and higher enzyme activity of NR,GPT before peak flower period. They had characteristics of both strong vegetative and reproductive growth before peak flower period;the cultivars (Xinyang 822 and Sukang 103) had bigger growth rate of plant height,LAI,squares, boll and dry matter weight of the vegetative and reproductive organs; higher content of leaf total nitrogen, amino acid, soluble sugar and higher enzyme activity of NR, GPT,Rubisco and Sucroase after peak boll period. They had characteristics of both strong vegetative and reproductive growth after peak boll period. The cultivars of sGK321 and Lumian 16 had bigger growth rate of plant height,LAI,lower development rate of square and boll, higher content of leaf total nitrogen, amino acid and enzyme activity of NR,GPT,lower leaf soluble sugar content, Rubisco and Sucroase activity in whole growth period. They had characteristics of excessive vegetative growth.
