Abstract: For widening genetic diversity of cotton variety, domestic and foreign breeder launched interspecific hybridization among the species of Gossypium for utilizing benefit genes of wild cotton extensively, and have got many desirable germplasm. This paper summarized the enhancement and utilization of various upland cotton germplasms with elite genes of wild cotton species, such as high fiber quality, natural pest-resistant, disease-resistant and high lint percentage etc. The prospect of conventional breeding, utilization of heterosis and molecular biological research and the future utilization of these precious germplasms were also discussed. It should strengthen the identification and evaluation of the biological and genetic characteristics, enhance the application of molecular biology technology, intensify the preservation and utilization of those germplasms. The elite gene of the wild species of Gossypium, which should also be explored and used in order to promote those kinds of germplasms to play a great important role in cotton genetic improvement.
